Alternative Analogue Processes

Alternative processes is the term often used for historical photographic processes, such as cyanotype, gum bichromate and, in reality, silver gelatin printing. This is also sometimes called historical processes. I like the term alternative analogue processes because there are also alternative digital processes.

The best Australian source for workshops in the alternative process area is Ellie Young’s Gold Street Studios, located in rural Trentham in Victoria. Ellie also sells some supplies for these processes which are now becoming hard to source elsewhere in Australia. For my experience doing one of Ellie’s Salt Printing Workshops, you can read my experience of it here.

I run the Digital Negative workshop at Gold Street Studios.

I recently wrote a review of the alternative process exhibitions that formed part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.

As an outcome of a recent Alternative Process seminar that I took part in as a panel member, I have setup and Alternative process forum on this site for discussion of these wonderful processes.
